Why were the Mongols able to expand their empire so far, so fast?

The Mongols expanded their empire so fast and far because they were a nomad fighting force fighting out of their horseback - we're talking about a fighting force which was mostly using horse archers who were being carried on very fast horses, compared to going on foot at least.
