A large number of scores written for the movies around the '30s and '40s were by European composers who were running away from persecution in their home nations. Example of these was Max Steiner in Gone with the Wind (1939) and King Kong (1933). Leopold Stokowski (1940) with the Philadelphia Orchestra.
