So, which of these is NOT a feature of democracy? Since the U. S. is a democracy, think of it like this: which of these does the United States NOT have?

"Individual liberties" means that each and every citizen has rights. For example, the right to free speech: people can say what they want! This IS a feature of democracy--the US has it!

What about "only one political party"? How many main parties does the US have? Two: Democrats and Republicans. This is NOT a characteristic of democracy, so this is the right answer.

Let's look at the rest, to be sure. What does "majority rules, but with minority rights" mean? That means that things are decided by a vote: what the majority, or most of the people, wants, is what you get. However, the minority, or the people not included in the majority, also have rights. This is a feature of democracy.

Finally, what is free election? Basically, people have the right to elect leaders! Think of the upcoming 2016 presidential election in the US. That's a free election! This is democracy. Now we're certain, "only one political party" is correct--it is NOT a characteristic of democracy.

    Answer: only one political party
