An artifact is an object of the past that symbolizes something in history, whether it is some historical fiction, a concept, or some sort of philosophy. Artifacts are well sought after because they hold historic and sentimental value to collectors and those born into the generation of the specific ancestors. They are prized and treasured as being 'maps of the past', so to speak.
