From the beginning of the shift to farming, problems involving infectious disease increased (1). Neolithic farm settlements were breeding grounds for anthrax and typhus (2). Neolithic farmers understood the implications of germs and unsanitary conditions (3). Yet, treatments for disease had not been discovered (4).
