Why was industrial revolution called the gilded age

Mark Twain named it the Gilded Age. The Gilded Age played an important role in the development of the American society. This time period was corrupt. Corruption spread through the city, state, and national governments. The Gilded Age transformed the economy, technology, government, and social customs.

As quoted by Mark Twain, he explains that "The Gilded Age glittered beautifully on the surface, but beneath, corrupt" Meaning, though initially it may seem as if this age is wonderful and perfect, but upon closer inspection, reveals corrupt politicians, businessmen, and citizens.
