    As a result of an expansion in cotton production on account of the recently developed cotton gin ranchers required more land for their estates which put pressure on Indian land. The Americans attempt to absorb the Indians into American culture as was in the case with the Cherokees, and numerous likewise felt that it was exploitative to simply dispose of any understandings that they had made with the Indians since they believed they were unrivaled. Americans felt that they were better than the Indians because of their skin tone and ethnicity so they felt that they could expel them from their property.
