    D) Jamestown was the capital of the Virginia Colony before Williamsburg.

    Explanation:

Virginia was the first colony established by the English settlers in 1607 in Jamestown, which became the capital. English settlers were immigrating due to religious and political persecutions in their countries and to establish trade opportunities, trade routes, and etc.

Jamestown nearly became extinct around 1610 due to disease, battles with the natives and famines, however, a new group of settlers arrived in 1610. Due to tobacco which was profitable export, the capital expanded to the east and remained the capital until 1699. Due to fire at the statehouse on two consecutive occasions, the capital moved to Middle Plantation which was later renamed Middleburg.
