    After world war 2, the USSR controlled all of Eastern Europe. This was called the iron wall. During this time period, puppet states were formed along the East to manage the iron wall. Life in these puppet states were terrible. Around the 1960s - 1980s the iron wall started to crumble as the USSR could not handle Eastern Europe.
