S. President from 1797 to 1801. While the Federalists wanted to establish a strong central government, the Anti-federalist opposed the idea of the strong national government. On this, the reaction of John Adams' administration's to the anti-federalists' fear was that the strong central government would become too powerful to establish a tyranny just like the Britishers once had.
