If you double a number and then add 40, you get 2/11 of the original number. What is the original number?

    Let the number be n.

    2n + 40 = 2/11 n

    multiplying the equation by 11,

    22n + 440 = 2n

    20n + 440=0

    20n = - 440

    dividing both sides by 20,

    n = - 22
