    The settlement in the west affected the native American Indians as they lost their land.

    Explanation:

    The lives of native Americans changed drastically as a result of this westward settlements. They were forced to evacuate their land and settle in small reservations. The buffalo herds were killed to force the American Indians into reservations. The land given by government was encroached time and again. Efforts were made to "civilize" them This oppression lead to various uprisings like "Battle of little bighorn" where many native Indians were killed.
