Why did the Ottoman ruler in Egypt lose control of the Suez Canal?

He could not repay loans on the canal and so sold shares to Britain.

He put the interests of the British ahead of the Egyptian people.

He could not fight the British with the small Egyptian army.

He was busy trying to put down revolts from nationalists.
