    Yes

    Explanation:

Technology was a better driving force behind European imperialism than national competition because technology had a more direct impact on European imperialism. New technologies were what allowed Europeans to colonize the majority of Africa (even though people already lived there and had claims to the land). Without the new method of obtaining quinine, the cure for malaria would not have happened and the Europeans wouldn't have colonized any more than the coast. Without new guns that fired faster and more accurately, Europeans wouldn't have been able to intimidate the Africans into submitting to their authority. The steam engine, leading to locomotives and steamboats, allowed for resources that Europeans obtained from their African colonies to be quickly transported and turned into goods. These technological advancements directly impacted the success of European imperial efforts. Due to this success, new technological advancements affected national competition, caused by imperial efforts, indirectly.
