    Answer: what did not happen was the elimination of monarchy and ruling dynasty. What did not happen was to make Catholic Christianity state religion.

    Explanation: English civil war was fought between Parliament (whose intention was to limit absolute power of kings/Stuarts) and kings (Stuart dynasty, being Catholic - closely linked to Rome, papacy - claimed absolute power). King Charles I was defeated and executed (1649), republic proclaimed (Oliver Cromwell). But experiement with republicanism (the only one in English history, usually historians speak about "Protectorate") did not work and monarchy was restored (Charles II and James II). Restauration period (started 1660) ended with so-called Glorious revolution (1688) ... when the last king of Stuart dynasty was expulsed and never managed to get back to English throne.
