If you have paved roads water can build up on them and be dangerous for drivers. So that's why there are such things as curbs. They distribute water farther down the road into a drain so that the water does not build up on the paved road. And the benefit of having curves is if there's someone you don't like it you can perform the action called curb stomping on them.
