French were interested in exploring New France. They were commercially strong and much of their trade was based on the fur which they have exported to European countries.

Samuel Champlain is the French person who took the exploration to greater strides. He found the many small islands along the Atlantic coastal line including Quebec.

His exploration went beyond Hudson Bay. He understood that the only way for a successful trade is possible by being friendly with the natives of America.
