The death of Martin Luther King Jr. took place on April 4, 1968. This event was a deep shock to all Americans, particularly those involved in the civil rights movement.

After news of the assassination became widespread, rioting took place all over the country. More than 100 cities experienced riots, including burning and looting. The reaction also led to the speedy passage of civil rights legislation. The Fair Housing Act was passed on April 11, which prohibited discrimination concerning the sale, rental and financing of property. It is unlikely that the rioting would have happened without the assassination. If it had, it probably would have been less significant. In terms of the Housing Act, it is unclear whether this would have passed anyway or not, but at the very least, it is likely that the assassination made this process faster.

The impact of King's killing basically, is a wake up call to African American from different strata of the society that inequality is real and also led to the revival of the federal fair housing bill which has been stagnant for a while before King's assassination. In addition, it led to the radicalization of many blacks leading to the formation of many black movements.

His assassination spurred both the middle class and the poor among the populace to come together for the first time and fight a cause which Luther King and many poor African Americans have been fighting. Prior to this time, few middle class have been involved in his fight for equal rights for African Americans.

In the event that King wasn't killed, civil right would have always take the peaceful mode modeled by Dr. Luther King before his assassination. So no significance difference would have existed from the way King handles the cause while he was alive and afterwards.

Of the consequences of the assassination of king was,

1. There was a widespread rioting within the nation which led to the destruction of properties in many cities.

2. It also led to White racism - an assumption that the whites are superior to other races and should take a domineering position over them.

The event wouldn't have taken place because the leader of the civil right cause would have still remained Dr. Luther King who will instill the sense of peaceful protest in his followers no matter what.
