    his presidency ended after a single term following his defeat in the 1800 presidential election. He was succeeded by Thomas Jefferson of the Democratic-Republican Party.

    He only served one term because he failed to obtain a second term due to how badly he did the first time. Such as passing some controversial laws; declared a "quasi war" an undeclared naval war with france.
