    Nativism is a policy of favoring native inhabitants over immigrants

    Explanation:

    The middle of the nineteenth century is known for having a wave of inmigrants over the United States. Due to this large number of inmigrants moving in the US people who considered themselves as descendants of the Thirteen Colonies founders started a movement mostly against Irish inmigrants to prevent them from entering the country.
