The progressive reformers and the federal government during the period 1989-1920 tried to make large corporate more responsible through extended regulation, to clean up corruption and to improve working and living conditions for workers, poor families and immigrants. Some of other progressive efforts include election reform, extend voting right to women. One of the most significant results of the period was the prohibition of alcoholic beverages which started from 1920.
