The Cherokee attempted to adapt to " Western Civilization", they were "civilized".

    Explanation:

The Cherokee people developed a system of writing and printing. They prepared a written constitution for the country composed of different tribes. This constitution was modeled after the US constitution. Cherokee women were gardeners, weavers, etc. The Cherokee published a newspaper and many of them learned English. They became civilized, so that they wouldn't be forced off their lands. Their action showed how well the Cherokee adapted to western civilization. Unfortunately, President Jackson evicted them from their lands their land and forced them to move to Oklahoma over what became known as the "Trail of Tears".
