In countries like Ethiopia, where sexual education is not very well implemented in the life of people things like FGM happen. This procedure is very dangerous and it is done at the girl's very young age. The reason why this method of damaging girls still exists is a gender stereotype.
Explanation:
In Ethiopia is still men's world, women and their rights are not so respected. People in Ethiopia consider that doing this procedure, a girl will be saved from diseases and genital infections.
But, behind all of these false reasons, there is one principle. Respecting the tradition. This way, women will stay virgins, they will avoid shame and their sexual desire will be lessened as the procedure is very painful and can leave serious consequences on women. The people in Ethiopia believe that a girl is more respected and traditionally accepted if her virginity is kept.
