    Explanation:

    Gregor Mendel was a monk and botanist. He is considered the father of genetics as his works on cross breeding of pea plants established the field of genetics. From his experiments on plants he fount out dominant and recessive characters. Although his works were not valued at first but got recognition when it was rediscovered by Carl Correns and Hugo de Vries.
