The Monroe Doctrine emerged in the United States in the mid-19th century as a response to the supposed threat of European nations to invade and recolonize the American continent. The motto of this doctrine was "America for the Americans" and, in it, the United States positioned itself as the guardian of the territorial integrity of the continent.
The Monroe Doctrine emerged during the government of James Monroe, president of the United States from 1817 to 1825, and it was a reaction of the Americans in relation to the threat that existed at that time that the American continent was invaded and recolonized by the European nations, the that would jeopardize the interests and sovereignty of Americans.
