In the United States, women earn cents for each dollar that a man ears. Can this be explained? What are the reasons?

i think the main reason is that women have to go on maternity leave whereas men don't

or it is the very mysoginistic ideas of men in higher standing who think the can just shave of a few cents that a woman's earnings.
