1. Nonviolent resistance was successful in the early part of the Civil Rights Movement because it showed that all races could be peaceful, respectable, and could get along with other races.

2. Dr. King is still widely admired by Americans today because he was a highly intelligent man who's protests and marches actually caused legal change! He is also admired because he is considered a martyr. This means that people connect his death with dying for his cause.
