    The cultural revolution was one of the most difficult periods of Chinese history, It lasted from 1966 until 1977 and was launched to reassert his authority over the Chinese government after the failure of Great Leap Forward (1958-1960). He believed that other communist leaders were taking over the party and China was moving in the wrong direction and hence he called the youth for purging impure elements from the society and reviving the revolution. It continued in different phases which continued till 1976.
