Asoka (Grandson of the founder of the Mauryan Empire as well) was the third and most powerful emperor of the Mauryan Empire (Grandson of the founder of the Mauryan Empire as well) who, during his reign, expanded the empire from Afghanistan to Bangladesh, as well as waging war against Kalinga that killed a reported 100,000 people and deported 150,000 more alive people. This war changed him as he converted to Buddhism after witnessing the amount of deaths he made during the Kalinga War. From this, he renounced armed conquests as well as adopted a new policy names: ""conquest by dharma" also know as the principles of a right life. (From Encyclopedia Britannica's sources). He promoted Buddhism and ruled towards non - violence as well as pursuing and understanding dharma as virtues of honesty, mercy, sincerity, etc. This is who Asoka was, what he did in his reign, what changed him, and how he vowed to rule in his future.
