Why did the United States fight Britain and NOT France in the War of 1812? Loyalties in America were strongly tied to France. To mount an attack and claim Canada from the British. The peace settlement news came too late and war was declared. The British would not stop taking our ships and sailors.

    They wanted to stop the trade between the US and France while they were at war with the french. I think the closest answer would be A.
