Because they reached a consensus with the allies to concentrate on the war at Europe

    Explanation:

The allies that were meant to join the war with the United States of America had war ongoing already at Europe and they couldn't join the US immediately to fight Japan so, they reached an agreement to finish the war at Europe before joining the United States to fight Japan. This was the reason it took time to defeat Japan.
