Gorbachev attempted to restore communism in the Soviet Union with two new methods:

Glasnost: means openness mainly for the political society - a relaxation of censorship and a greater tolerance of political criticism.

Perestroika: restructuring and reconstruction of the economy, the introduction of some capitalism ideas and some capitalist elements to increase growth of the economy.
