Homestead Act enabled the American Government to provide lands for the purpose of farming to those who accepted to settle in that specific place for another five years.

Farmers lived a solitary life. Social life was so limited that the peasants went to the churches on Sundays and attended the religious ceremony. Industrialization was at its zenith during late 1800s, people started to migrate to the urban areas and they started to settle down near big factories which afforded them livelihood.

Farmers, started to specialize in producing a specific community for which they were in need of a mechanized tools and equipment. This made them to borrow loans and they plunged into huge indebtedness. The market of agricultural costs dropped to a drastic low as people started to purchase on machine made goods.

This made the farmers to face heavy loss financially and they started to protest. National farmers alliance was formed which struggled for the welfare of the farmers.
