Explanation: Perestroika was first proposed by Brezhnev in 1979, which Gorbachev began to carry out during his term of office. Gorbachev was the eighth and final leader of the Soviet Union, who during his mandate from 1985 to 1991, tried to implement comprehensive economic and political reforms. Perestroika initially referred to an increase in automation and production efficiency, but ended with an increased awareness of the economic markets, and the abolition of central planning, which was characteristic of communism. In the final instance, perestroika and glasnost have resulted in the collapse of the Soviet Union.
