How did Texas become independent from Mexico and eventually gain statehood in the united states?

    In 1836, a small group of Texans was defeated by Mexican General Santa Anna. Houston's army won a quick battle against the Mexican forces at San Pacino and gained independence for Texas. The annexation of Texas contributed to the coming of the Mexican-American War. 1845 that, under President James K. Polk, Texas formally achieved statehood. They gained independence by Fighting and small revolts in Texas escalated from 1835 to 1836 as more Mexican troops entered the state, Americans in Texas declared independence from Mexico in 1836. The settlers from the southern states of the US had agreed to obey Mexican Law and become Mexican citizens in exchange for free land in Texas.
