The battle of Galveston took place in two occasions, the first was a naval meeting held on October 4, 1862, during the first moments of the war in which the Union tries to block the Port of Galveston. the second part occurred on January 1, 1863, during the American secession war. Galveston was a military objective since during the secession war the northern United States faced the southern United States for having different policies regarding slavery and the economic development of the nation. As a result, the battle was considered affiliated victory, by a union blockade that was temporarily lifted for four days around Galveston, and Galveston remained in affiliated hands for the rest of the war. Due to this battle, the port of Galveston became a tourist center and the port rose to the top of world cotton trade.
