    It would be seen as a threat in the region that Spain would fortify its presence in the American continent. If Spanish would be lucky in South America, they possibly would look to occupy former Spanish colonies in Central America.

    It would likely precipitate the Mexican-American War and the American Army would be stronger with a capital injection from the American government to fortify their position in the continent going beyond the Republic of Texas and the Rio Grande.
