Slaves in Ancient Greece were ...? Assigned by the government and every citizen owned a slave. Perceived as being necessary and were a normal part of city life. Always treated harshly and could never hope to earn their freedom. Utilized only as manual laborers in the fear that giving them any authority might lead to riots and freedom.
