The Great Compromise and 3/5 Compromise involved so much debate at the convention because of the population of bigger and smaller states. The original plan at the convention was for each states' number of representatives to depend on its population. Bigger states liked this plan, smaller states did not. The Great Compromise made it so that each state gets 2 senators. The states' number of representatives depended on the population. The 3/5 Compromise was about slaves. Southern states wanted their saves to count as population so they could have more representatives. Northern states argued that since slaves weren't allowed to vote, they shouldn't count as population. The states agreed to count 3/5 of the total number of slaves.
