    The Transcontinental Road was possible due to the Pacific Railroads Acts of 1862. The government authorized the construction to two companies: the Union Pacific and the Central Pacific. They built the railroads to connect the East of the country to the west coast. One company worked from Sacramento, California, to Utah and the other from Omaha, Nebraska to Utah. They finally met in Promontory, Utah, on March 10, 1869.
