Why did the blacks want to make their way north

    There were several reasons behind this requirements.

    1st one was obvious, they wanted to escape the slavery and a better, free life. The slavery abolishment move was strong in the north.

    The other reason was that the north was more industrialized than the south and south primarily depended on a plantation based agricultural economy. The north offered better jobs and a better pay as well.
