The present borders of Africa are the old boundaries of European colonies. When European colonialists drew the borders of their possessions, they didn't take into account ethnic and cultural realities. Very often, large peoples or tribes with the same culture and language that inhabited a geographical region, suddenly found themselves separated by a formal line that was not natural. This is one of the factors of wars in postcolonial Africa.
