The Answer is D: had its charter revoked by James I

    Explanation:

The main goal of the Virginia Company was to establish a colony in America that could yield a great profit to the company. Despite the great profits made by the company, bad management finally caused them to crumble. They hired workers that were put almost into slavery, not being able to resign or send letters complaining about their abuses. In the end, bankruptcy and mismanagement of funds took a heavy toll. Few people wanted to go to Virginia after a war with Powhatan Indians in 1622. Shortly after, King James, I sent personnel to investigate the company and the colony and he decided to revoke the Company's charter. One could also say that option C is partially correct, as Virginia became a royal colony, answering directly to the king's private council.
