What did Robert E. Lee do when he heard Five Forks had been taken by the Union army?

    When Robert E. Lee heard that Five Forks had been taken by the Union army, he ordered a quick and a decisive evacuation of soldiers was necessary and they evacuated and pulled out of positions that were held east of Richmond. Since he was cut off while doing this, he was forced to surrender at Appomattox
