    Answer: The popes of the renaissance were responsible for extending the power and influence of the catholic church, either by order to build churches such as the Sistine chapel (Sixtus II), impulse of the arts and sciences (Alexander VI), patronagte and support to artists (July II) and the expansion of Catholicism through the crusades.
