"Upon taking office, President Obama attempted to reduce the effects of the economic recession. In February 2009, Obama signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act into law. The legislation provided for the creation of thousands of new jobs in government building projects across the country. It also included tax credits and other benefits for both individuals and businesses."
