One slave code stated that all people of Virginia should be armed except for African-American slaves or they would suffer punishment such as fines. This was necessary because they knew that if the African-Americans had weaponry that they might rebel and try to overthrow the slavery system and they didn't want that so they outlawed weapon ownership of African-Americans.

Another Virginia code was that all children born out of interracial relationship would have their status determined by the mother. This was because many white people had intercourse with their enslaved women and the code was introduced to prevent those children from becoming free people and legitimate children of the rich white plantation owners.

There was a code from Alabama that prevented all African-Americans from learning to read or write or spell and anyone who did it would be fined with harsh amounts of money. This was done to prevent African-Americans from becoming emancipated since it would only encourage them to fight against slavery.

A code from Louisiana stated that if any slave struck their owner or anyone from their family would suffer capital punishment. This was done to fight their rebellion and their inobedience or their self-defense. If they attacked any person from the owner's family they would instantly be killed without any penalty for the killed.
