The correct answer is election fraud. After it was announced that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad winning seventy percent of the vote, even though their had been irregularities, the other candidates said the elections had been rigged and filed official complaints. The protests were peaceful, however the police used brutal force and imprisoned, tortured and raped men, women and children. Many people died and institutions were closed down along with certain cell phone uses and sites were blocks, as well as rallies banned. Many families were forced to write down that their family members had died due to natural causes, instead of having been killed by the Basij, which was the paramilitary group.
