The Restraining Acts (1775). These were two Acts passed by the Parliament of Great Britain, in response to disobedience in Massachusetts and New England (although it ended up spreading to the rest of colonies), which limited colonial trade. The Declaratory Act (1776). This Act was passed in response to the colonies' refusal to comply with the Stamp Act of 1765. This declaration was an attempt to reinforce the idea that the Parliament's authority was the same in America as in Britain.
