    President Kennedy addressed civil rights in that he proposed national civil rights legislation.

    On June 6, 1963, United States President John F. Kennedy invited Americans to treat each other with respect regardless of race. Then, asked Congress to consider legislation of Civil Rights. Kennedy wanted a Civil Rights legislation that covered, public schools desegregation, public accommodations, voting rights, among others. Unfortunately, Kennedy was assassinated in November 1963. But it was his successor, Lyndon B. Johnson who signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964, on July 2.
